These yummy, delicious rolls are good on any occasion. As a snack, with lasagna or spagehetti, or just as an appetizer. You will need to make a bunch, they don't last long when they come out of the oven!!
1 envelope fast acting yeast
1 teaspoon sugar
2/3 cup warm water (not hot )
1/2 cup cheddar cheese ( I use sharp )
1/2 cup Parmesan cheese
1 and 2/3 cups white bread flour
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon oil (I use olive for flavor )
Melted butter
Put the yeast in a small bowl with sugar and 3 tablespoons of the warm water. Stir to dissolve sugar, let stand 5 minutes.
Put the flour and salt in a large mixing bowl, make a well and add the oil and yeast mixture.
Add the rest of the water and mix to form a soft dough. If the dough is dry, add a teaspoon of water at a time until soft.
Turn out onto a floured surface and
knead until smooth, about 10 minutes.
Roll out into a rectangle.
Spread the entire surface with melted butter, sprinkle cheeses onto butter.
Add garlic if you wish at this stage.
Roll up jellyroll style, starting with short ends.
Slice into 1 inch rounds and place onto greased baking pan.
Cover and let rise for 45 minutes.
When doubled in size, bake at 350 for about 8 to 10 minutes or until golden brown.
Remove from oven and brush with melted butter and sprinkle more cheese onto tops if desired.
I garnish mine with parsley flakes. Enjoy!!
